Federal Government Approves N48 Billion Engineering Upgrade for 12 Universities; SUMAS Secures N4 Billion TETFund Intervention
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a landmark N48 billion intervention for the upgrade of engineering facilities in 12 selected universities across the country, in a bold move to reposition Nigeria’s tertiary education sector for global competitiveness.
The announcement was made at the inauguration of the Implementation Committee on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High-Impact Intervention Project held in Abuja. The initiative is designed to strengthen engineering education nationwide through the provision of modern laboratories, advanced equipment, upgraded workshops, and improved infrastructure that meet international standards.
Among the 12 beneficiary institutions is the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, which secured N4 billion worth of projects under the TETFund intervention.
The inclusion of SUMAS in this prestigious national programme is widely seen as a recognition of the university’s steady rise as a center of excellence in medical and applied sciences. The N4 billion allocation is expected to significantly boost engineering-related programmes, enhance research capacity, and provide students with hands-on, industry-relevant training.
