Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike is a renowned Catholic priest, scholar, and global advocate for ethics, justice, and sustainable development. Born in Enugu State, Nigeria, he has devoted his life to advancing social responsibility, interfaith dialogue, and leadership grounded in Catholic Social Teaching. Over the decades, he has distinguished himself in various capacities—ranging from pastoral work and community development to academia and international advocacy.


Early Life and Education

Obiora Ike was born into a devout Catholic family in Enugu State. His early education took place in Eastern Nigeria, where his strong academic aptitude and sense of faith were nurtured. He proceeded to study Philosophy and Theology at Bigard Memorial Seminary in Enugu, a leading seminary in West Africa affiliated with the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.

Seeking to broaden his intellectual horizons, he furthered his studies in Europe, earning advanced degrees in the fields of Economics, Ethics, and Social Sciences from institutions including the University of Innsbruck in Austria and the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. This interdisciplinary background laid the groundwork for his lifelong commitment to integrating faith with practical solutions to social and economic challenges.


Ecclesiastical and Pastoral Work

Ordained a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Enugu, Msgr. Ike has served in numerous pastoral and administrative roles. In recognition of his dedicated service, he was honored with the title of Monsignor by the Holy See, reflecting his outstanding contribution to the Church’s mission and social teachings.

Msgr. Ike is widely recognized for his passion for social justice and peacebuilding. He was pivotal in founding and directing the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice, Peace and Caritas (CIDJAP) in Enugu—an organization focused on poverty alleviation, conflict resolution, and community development. Under his leadership, CIDJAP became a leading force in promoting dialogue, capacity building, and good governance practices across Nigeria and beyond.


Academic and Professional Engagements

A committed educator and scholar, Msgr. Ike has lectured at various universities and institutes, where he has taught courses in Ethics, Philosophy, Theology, and African Studies. Known for his scholarly contributions, he has authored and edited several books and articles dealing with human rights, interreligious dialogue, business ethics, and African cultural values.

From 2016 to 2022, he served as the Executive Director of Globethics.net in Geneva, Switzerland—an international organization dedicated to promoting ethical reflection, dialogue, and action in the realms of governance, business, and education. His tenure at Globethics.net reinforced his global reputation as a champion of principled leadership and corporate responsibility.
