Born on March 17, 1972, in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah was raised in a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of diligence, integrity, and service to humanity. He completed his primary and secondary education in Enugu State, laying the foundation for his remarkable academic pursuit.
Drawn to the legal profession, he proceeded to the University of East London in the United Kingdom, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. Upon returning to Nigeria, he attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He further enhanced his qualifications by earning a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Lagos State University (LASU) and undertaking executive studies at prestigious institutions, including Harvard Business School and the IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. Over time, he was conferred with a doctorate (honoris causa), acknowledging his contributions to leadership, governance, and development.
Early Career and Public Service
Barr. (Dr.) Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s first significant foray into public service came during the administration of Governor Chimaroke Nnamani (1999–2007). He served as Chief of Staff before being appointed as Commissioner for Finance in Enugu State between 2003 and 2007. In these roles, he distinguished himself by introducing reforms that enhanced fiscal responsibility, revenue generation, and transparency in governance.
Following his tenure in government, Peter Mbah returned to the private sector, where he founded Pinnacle Oil & Gas Limited, an energy and maritime logistics company. Under his visionary leadership, Pinnacle Oil & Gas grew into a notable player in the Nigerian downstream sector. His success in the corporate world solidified his reputation as an astute entrepreneur and strategic thinker.
Return to Public Office and Governorship
Inspired by his passion for societal development, Barr. (Dr.) Peter Ndubuisi Mbah re-entered politics, running for the Governorship of Enugu State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He won the 2023 gubernatorial election and was sworn in on May 29, 2023, as the Executive Governor of Enugu State.
Since assuming office, Governor Mbah has prioritized innovative economic policies, infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and quality healthcare. His administration’s programs are guided by transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. He also champions sustainable policies aimed at agricultural modernization, small and medium enterprise (SME) growth, and improvements in the education and health sectors.
Visitor, State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno
In recognition of his commitment to enhancing healthcare access and medical education, Governor Mbah serves as the Visitor to the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, Enugu. This role underscores his dedication to producing world-class medical professionals and fostering innovative research in the health sciences. Under his leadership, the University is positioned to become a leading institution for healthcare transformation, not just in Enugu State but throughout Nigeria.
