Systems Pharmacology II

Endocrine pharmacology: Introduction to endocrine pharmacology. Hypothalamo-pituitary axis. Hormones of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Thyroid and anti-thyroid drugs. Adrenocortical hormones. Oestrogens and progestogens. Oxytocin and other drugs acting on the female reproductive tract. Oral contraceptives and ovulatory drugs. Androgens and the male reproductive tract. Anabolic steroids; mineralocorticoids. Drugs for erectile dysfunction. Insulin and orally effective hypoglycemic drugs and glucagon. Thyroid and Parathyroid hormone with their inhibitors, calcitonin, bisphosphonates and vitamin D. Haemopoietic pharmacology: Haematinics; vitamin B12, folic acid, Iron and Iron requirements, availability, metabolism, and deficiency. Erythropoietin and other growth factor like granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating Factor and granulocyte colony-stimulating Factor.
