Principles of Chemical Processes

(Pre-requisite: CHM 112)

Introduction to chemical principles. Units in chemical process principles and calculations. Process and process variables in manufacturing of mass: material flow in a chemical process flow chart scaling. Units of material flow and balance. Basis of calculations. Process classification: Batch, continuous and semi-batch processes, recycles and bypass, equilibrium and ideal stage efficiency. Material balance involving chemical reactions, yield and selectivity.  Corrosion and materials of construction survey of Nigeria’s industries and applications of locally available raw materials as industrial feedstock Energy Balance Calculations. The phase of chemical equilibrium data for process calculation. Applications of energy balances to unit operations.
