Physiotherapy in Cardiovascular Disorders

Review of basic physiological principles and dynamics of circulation; heart physiology and cardiac cycle. ECG – normal and abnormal. Clinical features, pathological basis, assessment and management of specific cardiovascular conditions e.g. thrombosis, embolism, thoracic outlet syndrome, congenital heart deformities, hypertensive heart disease, corpulmonale, congestive heart failure and heart attack, cardiac arrest, ischaemic heart disease, myocardial infarction; Principles of cardiac rehabilitation. History taking, physical examination and specific assessment procedures and clinical judgments, treatment and evaluation of patients who have had general surgery and those with cancer. Students will also be exposed to the appropriate ways of communicating treatment goals and plans to the patient.
