Pharmacy Ethics and Jurisprudence

Introduction to elementary principles of law. Study of various laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, sale of drugs and pharmaceuticals. Need to explain the pharmacy laws in their relationship to the board principles of public law and civil codes. Case histories can be relevant. History of Pharmacy and Pharmacists Act. Professional Ethics. A lawyer’s participation may be necessary in part. Ethics of Pharmacy in Nigeria. Dangerous drugs and poisons and Pharmacy Acts. Essential drug list. Pharmacists regulation rules. Dispensing of drugs, patent and proprietary medicines. Legislation on animal health product. Food and cosmetic laws including regulation, inspection, registration, adverting, manufacture, sales/distribution. Fake and counterfeit drug laws, National Health Insurance Schemes (NHIS) and other health Policies and National Drug Policy Law related to:

  • The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and control (NAFDAC)
  • National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
  • Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON)
  • Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN)
  • WHO/FAO Codex Allimentarium commission
  • United Nations Narcotic Commission
  • Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA)
  • Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN)

All other relevant laws related to the practice of pharmacy including those of the Pharmacists Disciplinary Committee and Assessor’s rules. Treaties and Protocol on Drug and related matter.
