Pharmacotherapeutics III

Care of the head, eye, ear, nose, throat and mouth ; Tropical/ Neglected Diseases: malaria, filariasis, schistomiasis, leishmaniasis, Tuberculosis, Heamatological disorders; iron deficiency anaemia and sickle cell anaemia; Gynecology & Obstetrics/Reproductive system: Contraception, menstruation Related Diseases, infertility, STI’s, Hormone Replacement Therapy, toxic shock syndrome and tampons;

Urinary Tract Infections and Pelvic Inflammatory diseases;

Oncology – Breast, prostate and cervical cancers; others: cold, cough and allergy, pain and headache, insomnia, otitis, fever, meningitis, fungal infections

This course emphasizes the application of the knowledge of the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, epidemiology, diagnosis, biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical care to develop skills in planning the rational therapeutic and non-drug therapy of selected diseases. Case studies and WHO/other standard indicators/prescribing guidelines are employed as approaches to developing the ideas of rational drug therapy, monitoring drug therapy and interactions. Areas to be covered will include, fluid and electrolyte balance, pulmonary systems, gastroenterology, rheumatology, endocrinology, medical emergencies and critical care therapeutics including treatment of poisoning and adverse drug reactions.
