Novel Drug Delivery Systems

Overview of novel drug delivery systems for different routes of drug administration. Complexity in drug development and delivery. Ideal properties of materials for drug delivery. Ideal properties of drugs for formulation for prolonged release. Characteristics of an ideal drug delivery system. Molecular mechanisms of drug delivery. Techniques for enhancing oral absorption of drugs. Novel drug delivery systems and Biotechnology; Liposomes, Self-emulsifying systems. Oral modified/controlled release and targeted drug delivery systems. Nanomaterials, nanoparticles and nanotechnology. Nano drug delivery systems and their application in drug delivery, diagnosis and medicine (nanotheranostics). Nanomedicines. Ocular drug delivery – anatomy, physiology and ophthalmic drug delivery barriers (corneal and intra vitreous drug delivery barriers), nasal and pulmonary drug delivery systems; Dermal and transdermal drug delivery systems, site specific/targeted delivery systems, bioartificial organs. Production of therapeutic proteins/biochemicals. Protein/peptide delivery, liposomes and other polymeric delivery materials.  Injection depot and implants, vaginal drug delivery. Novel paediatric formulations. In vivo fate of nanomaterials and nanomedicines. Applications of nanomedicines in biomedical sciences and in the treatment of diseases (infectious and non-infectious). Nano veterinary drug formulations. Paediatric and geriatric formulations. Novel delivery systems: nanotechnology, personalized medicines and their role in treatment success. Cell based therapies, gene therapy and medication management.
