Metabolic Regulation

The relationship of kreb’s cycle to protein, carbohydrate, lipid and nucleic acids metabolism. Integration of metabolic pathways. Turn-over rates and metabolic pools. Regulation of enzyme activities and synthesis; regulation of enzymes of metabolic pathways-feedback inhibition versus enzyme synthesis; principle of the metabolic control and example from regulatory metabolic systems and processes. Catabolite repression, end product repression, the lactose operon and arabinose operon. Identification of different regulatory mechanism in metabolic pathways. Allosteric enzymes; hormonal control of metabolic processes. Enzyme induction and regulation of gene expression.
