Introduction to Statistics

Statistical data: types, sources and methods of collection. Presentation of data: tables, charts and graphs. Errors and approximations, frequency and cumulative distributions. Measures of location, partition, dispersion, skewness and kurtosis. Rates, ratios, and index numbers. Scope of statistical methods in biology and agriculture. Measures of location, partition and dispersion. Elements of probability. Probability distributions: binomial, Possion, geometric. Hypergeometric, negative binomial, normal. Estimation (point and interval) and tests of hypotheses concerning population means, proportions and variances. Regression and correlation. Non-parametric tests. Contingency table analysis. Introduction to design of experiments. Analysis of variance.
