General and Applied Nutrition

Basic nutrition principles with special emphasis on nutrients; digestion and absorption and their problems. Control of appetite. Nutritive value of tropical foods and Nigeria diets; effect of season and cultural habits. Selection and formulation of balanced diets.  Foetus as a parasite. Non-Conventional foods.  Food enrichment and supplementation in general. Complementation, fortification. Food habits. Nutritional needs of children, pregnant and lactating women, adolescents and the aged. Nutrition, infection and the immune responses. Physiology of growth, pregnancy and lactation.
