Clinical Pharmacokinetics

This course focuses on the utilization and application of pharmacokinetic principles in developing a pharmaceutical care plan for a given patient. Use of mathematical principles to predict drug disposition in individual patients will be emphasized. Effect-time and concentration- effect relationship will be explored. General application of pharmacokinetic to clinical situations. Determination of concentration in serum and other body fluids and interpretation of results. Compartmental models and drug disposition in models. Dosage selection. Dosage adjustments in organ dysfunction and other disease states. Specific dosage prescribing requirements/guidelines under certain conditions: Prescribing for the pediatric and elderly populations. Prescribing for renal and liver impaired patients, prescribing for pregnant and lactating mother. Instruction to therapeutic drug monitoring. Consideration of the clinical pharmacokinetics of selected drugs used in various disease states. Pharmacokinetics in disease states modifying body perfusion. Pharmacokinetics in disease state modifying protein binding. Therapeutic drug monitoring- Analysis of counterfeit, qualitative and quantitative analysis of some pharmaceuticals.
