MBB 346

Biochemical Basis of Diseases

Normal cell differentiation and proliferation, including intracellular signals generated by agonist/receptor binding, the role of cell surface receptors and adhesion molecules in regulating cell function, the role of protein kinases and transcription factors in cellular responses to extracellular signals, and apoptosis. The control of inflammation. The context of research into the origins and treatment of human disease, clinical pathologies involving abnormal cell proliferation, differentiation and inflammation i.e. cancer, atherosclerosis; abnormal coagulation and ischaemia reperfusion injury; autoimmunity, renal glomerulosclerosis and transplantation.
