Metal carbonyls: Preparation, reactions, structure and bonding. Carboxylate ion, carbonyl hydrides and halides. Lanthanides and actinides; systematic study of the elements of the two series. Boron hydrides, preparation, reactions, structure and bonding. Non – aqueous solvent; classification of solvent, solute-solvent interactions, non-aqueous solvents; oxyhalide solvents, protonic solvents, liquid halides and fused salts.
