CHM 412

Advanced Physical Chemistry II

(Pre-requisite: CHM 312)

Quantum mechanics II: Various approximation methods, self consistent field theory of many-electron atoms. Hybridization theory of resonance Quantum mechanics of molecules, the hydrogen molecule ion, etc. Molecular orbital and valence bond theories. Molecular Spectroscopy: the electromammetic spectrum. The nature of the interaction of light with molecules. Factors determining the frequency, shape and intensity of absorption bands due to rotational, vibrational and electronic transition in molecules as studied by microwave in uv-visible and raman spectroscopy; Chemical kinetics II: Theories of reaction rate (the collision theory and the theory of absolute reaction rate).
