Brief introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the skin, hair and nail; Definition and types of cosmetics. Raw materials for formulation of cosmetics. Packaging and cosmetics regulations. Common skin, scalp and nail diseases.  Cosmeceuticals – meaning and examples.  Cosmetics related skin irritation Allergens and hypoallergens.  In vitro and in vivo tests for cosmetics skin irritation. Industrial production of cosmetics, Equipment for large scale cosmetic manufacturing. Local sources/processing of cosmetic raw materials, small scale manufacture and quality control of cosmetic formulations, Biopharmaceutical considerations in cosmetic formulations. Herbal cosmetic formulations. Perfumes, preparation, evaluation and toxicology.
