Chemotherapy

General principles of chemotherapy. The pharmacology of the following drugs: Sulphonamides. Beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems, and monobactams). Tetracyclines. Chloramphenicol. Aminoglycosides. Miscellaneous antibiotics – macrolides, polymyxins, lincosamides, flouroquinolones, metronidazole, bacitracin. Chemotherapy of tuberculosis and leprosy. Antifungal agents. Chemotherapy of protozoan parasitic infections: Malaria life cycle and antimalarials, current trend in malaria treatment. Antimalarial drug resistance. Anti-amoebics, drugs used in trichomoniasis, schistosomiasis, giardiasis, trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis. Antihelmintics. Antiviral agents; HIV/AIDS treatment – HAART regimen. Neoplasia and antineoplastic agents.
