Viral Infection Processes

Bological properties and characteristics of viruses particularly associated with the common and important infections of man, plants and other animals, transmission, epidemiology, pathogenesis and control of these virus groups. The basic specific and non-specific host defence mechanisms associated with these infections, the varying interactions of viruses with these defences, and the principles concerned with the diagnosis of viral infections by laboratory procedures. The nature of those viruses that infect man – pathogenic mechanisms, viral latency and persistence and viral carcinogenesis. Control of viral infections through the use of viral vaccines and antiviral chemotherapy.
