CVE 412

Reinforced Concrete Design

Fundamentals of design process, materials selection, building regulations and relevant codes of practice.  Design philosophy; elastic and limit state designs in concrete, principle of modular ratio and load factor method.  Analysis of structure and analysis of sections (for bending moment shear stress, bonding stress and torsion, serviceability and stability requirements.  Design of structural elements in reinforced concrete e.g. simply supported and continuous beams, slabs and short columns.  Examples on design and detailing of reinforced concrete beams, slab, and short columns.
